Terrorism, Suspicious Items, Fire & Severe Threats

LESSON 7 OF 8

Terrorism, Suspicious Items, Fire & Severe Threats

Different emergencies require different protective actions.

This course supplements official ACT and venue training. Staff should report suspicious behaviour, avoid touching suspicious items, follow fire procedures and respond to the actual threat rather than assumptions.

Suspicious items+

Do not touch, move, open or use a radio immediately beside a suspicious item where local procedure warns against it. Create distance and report from a safer position.

Fire+

Raise the alarm, follow the fire plan, keep escape routes available and only use extinguishers if trained, safe and the procedure allows.

Hostile attack+

Follow current national/venue emergency guidance, including Run Hide Tell principles where applicable, and police instructions.

Severe weather/utilities+

High winds, lightning, flooding or power loss can become major incidents. Follow contingency plans and report changing risks.

Do not investigate dangerous items

Your role is to notice, distance, report and follow the emergency plan.

Knowledge check

You find a suspicious bag with wires visible. What should you do?
