Emergency Preparedness & Role Awareness

LESSON 1 OF 8

Emergency Preparedness & Role Awareness

Know the plan before the emergency.

Emergency response depends on staff knowing their position, exits, communication method, assembly/refuge arrangements and chain of command. The live venue plan and briefing always take priority over generic training.

Before opening+

Identify nearest exits, emergency routes, first-aid access, fire points, Control contact and any role-specific emergency responsibility.

Know your limits+

Do not perform specialist rescue, firefighting or medical tasks unless trained, equipped and authorised.

Keep routes usable+

Emergency exits, gates, vehicle routes and access for emergency services must remain clear throughout the event.

Report defects early+

Damaged exits, failed lighting, radio faults or inaccessible routes should be reported before they are needed in an emergency.

Prepared staff respond better

Emergency procedures are harder to learn after alarms start. Use briefing time properly.
