Crowd Emergencies, Crushing & Structural Concerns
Crowd Emergencies, Crushing & Structural Concerns
Crowd conditions can deteriorate faster than individual incidents.
Watch for stopped movement, pressure waves, people unable to control direction, falls, barrier movement, panic or unusual noise. Report before severe crushing develops.
Density indicators+
People unable to turn, arms trapped, feet lifted, repeated surges or visible distress can signal dangerous crowd pressure.
Falls and collapse+
One fall in dense movement can trigger multiple falls. Call for urgent assistance and follow crowd-management instructions.
Barrier/structure failure+
Move people away if safe, report immediately and do not rely on improvised repairs during live crowd loading.
Alternative routing+
Any route change must consider where displaced people will go. Closing one route can overload another.
Do not wait until people are injured before telling Control an area is becoming unsafe.
