Command, Control, Radios & Information Discipline

LESSON 3 OF 8

Command, Control, Radios & Information Discipline

Major incidents require disciplined communication.

Control, safety/security management and emergency services coordinate the wider response. Staff should follow the chain of command, avoid self-deployment and keep radio channels clear for priority traffic.

Control point+

Control collects information, coordinates resources, records decisions and communicates with key agencies. Give clear updates and follow instructions.

Radio priority+

During emergency traffic, avoid routine chatter. Listen fully before transmitting and acknowledge critical instructions.

Rumours+

Do not repeat unverified claims to customers or colleagues. Rumours can cause panic or send people toward danger.

Self-deployment+

Do not leave a critical position to “go and help” unless directed. Your position may protect an exit, route or crowd area.

One coordinated response

Well-intentioned independent action can conflict with the emergency plan.

Knowledge check

Control declares emergency radio traffic. What should you do?
