Slips, Trips, Manual Handling & Workplace Hazards

LESSON 4 OF 8

Slips, Trips, Manual Handling & Workplace Hazards

Common hazards cause a large proportion of workplace injuries.

Event environments contain cables, temporary surfaces, steps, wet floors, cases, barriers and equipment. Simple housekeeping and early reporting prevent injuries.

Slips and trips+

Identify spills, trailing cables, poor lighting, damaged flooring and obstructions. Protect the area and arrange correction rather than assuming people will see it.

Manual handling+

Assess the load, route, grip and your own capability. Use team handling or mechanical aids where needed and avoid twisting or carrying loads that obstruct vision.

Work at height+

Do not climb barriers, chairs or improvised surfaces to reach equipment. Use suitable access equipment and trained personnel.

Electricity and equipment+

Report damaged plugs, exposed cables, overheating equipment or water near electrics. Do not make unauthorised repairs.

Routine does not mean harmless

Repeated small hazards can become normalised. Continue reporting them until the risk is properly controlled.

Knowledge check

You find a cable crossing a busy public route. What should you do?
