Suspected Perpetrators, Separation & Safe Intervention
Suspected Perpetrators, Separation & Safe Intervention
Protect the person without creating additional danger.
Where safe and within procedure, separate the person seeking help from the suspected perpetrator or unwanted companion. Avoid confrontations that may escalate risk or alert someone before support is ready.
Discreet separation+
Use staff areas, welfare points or another controlled location. Consider whether the person can leave without being followed.
Do not mediate abuse+
Do not bring the parties together to “sort it out” if somebody has reported fear, assault, stalking or coercive behaviour.
Security response+
Use supervisors, response teams or police where behaviour requires removal, detention within lawful powers or criminal investigation.
Protect staff safety+
Do not confront a violent person alone. Use dynamic risk assessment, safe positioning and adequate support.
If a person is trying to leave safely, careless radio or public conversation may reveal their location or intended transport.
