Medical Incidents, Reporting & Post-Incident Actions

LESSON 9 OF 10

Accurate Information Supports the Response

Fire and safety incidents require clear communication during the event and accurate records afterwards.

For injury or illness, summon the appropriate medical response, give an exact location and protect the casualty from further danger without acting outside your training. Preserve access for responders and manage surrounding crowds as instructed.

Radio report+

Give location, incident type, immediate danger, number of people affected and assistance required. Keep information factual.

Incident record+

Record what you personally saw, heard, did and were instructed to do. Use times where known and avoid assumptions.

Defects+

Fire doors, alarms, lighting, extinguishers, routes or other safety defects should be reported through the venue/company process.

Debrief+

Lessons from incidents and near misses should feed back into future planning, briefings and controls.
