Discovering Fire, Smoke or a Suspected Fire

LESSON 4 OF 10

Raise the Alarm and Protect Life

Do not delay reporting while trying to prove that a fire is serious.

1Recognise — if you discover fire, smoke, a burning smell or another credible indication, treat it seriously.
2Raise the alarm — use the site method immediately and notify Control/supervision as required.
3Give location — state exactly where the problem is and what you can see or smell.
4Protect people — move people away from immediate danger and support the venue procedure.
5Keep yourself safe — do not enter smoke, open a dangerous area unnecessarily or allow the incident to cut off your escape route.
Never delay for a better look

A fast, accurate report allows the responsible person and emergency services to make informed decisions.
