General Workplace & Event Safety

LESSON 8 OF 10

Safety Goes Beyond Fire

Many incidents are prevented by staff noticing ordinary hazards before somebody is hurt.

Slips, trips & falls+

Report or safely address spills, trailing cables, damaged surfaces, poor lighting and obstructions. Protect the area while help is arranged where necessary.

Manual handling+

Do not lift or move loads beyond your ability or training. Use equipment, assistance and the approved method where provided.

Temporary infrastructure+

Report damaged barriers, fencing, structures, signage, flooring or electrical equipment. Do not assume another team has already noticed.

PPE & task controls+

Wear required PPE and follow the risk controls for the task/site. Never bypass a control simply to save time.

Near misses matter

An incident that nearly caused injury may expose a failing control. Report it so action can be taken before somebody is harmed.
