Evidence, CCTV, Body-Worn Video & Reporting
Good evidence handling can protect both the victim and the integrity of an investigation.
Incident records should be factual and timely. Preserve relevant CCTV, body-worn video, witness details, messages or items through the authorised process. Do not post or privately share footage.
CCTV opportunities+
Record exact locations and approximate times so CCTV can be located quickly. Do not promise footage exists until verified.
Body-worn video+
Use only in line with company/venue procedure and legal requirements. Do not activate solely to record a sensitive disclosure if policy or circumstances make that inappropriate.
Words used+
Record significant statements accurately, using quotation marks where appropriate. Separate what the person told you from what you observed.
Potential evidence+
Do not unnecessarily handle drinks, clothing, phones or other items that may later be relevant. Follow police or venue evidence guidance.
Limit sensitive information to staff who need it for safety, safeguarding, medical care, management or investigation.
