Risk Changes During the Event
A hazard can emerge after the written risk assessment was completed.
A hazard is something with potential to cause harm; risk is the likelihood and consequence of that harm. Threats may be deliberate. Staff contribute by recognising changing conditions and reporting them early.
Event-specific risk+
No two events are identical. Crowd profile, weather, timings, activity and security context can change controls.
Dynamic risk+
If conditions change, reassess what is happening and escalate so controls can be changed.
Common headings+
Venue, event, people, systems/services, security, fire and weather are all relevant risk areas.
Near misses+
A near miss did not cause harm this time, but may reveal a control failure. Report it.
Knowledge check
You notice rain causing a previously safe concourse route to become slippery and congested. What is the correct response?
