Course Overview
This regulated qualification is designed for learners working at front-of-stage pit barriers within the live-events industry.
The course covers the purpose and different types of pit barriers, workplace health and safety, the roles of event personnel and how to recognise and respond to audience and performer activity.
Who Is This Course For?
This course is designed for learners aged 18 or over who work, or intend to work, at front-of-stage pit barriers during concerts, festivals and other live events.
Essential training for stewards and security personnel responsible for front-of-stage safety at live events.
Skills Covered
The qualification comprises one mandatory unit:
- Front of Stage Pit Barrier Operations: The purpose and types of pit barriers, staff roles and responsibilities, health and safety precautions, manual-handling techniques and responding appropriately to audience and performer behaviour.
- Understanding the purpose of front-of-stage pit barriers
- Recognising the roles and responsibilities of event personnel
- Protecting the health and safety of audiences, performers and colleagues
- Applying safe manual-handling and lifting techniques
- Monitoring audience and performer activity
- Responding appropriately to incidents at the pit barrier
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Previous qualifications: No formal prerequisites
- Experience: Experience or an interest in live-event operations is beneficial
- Language: Sufficient English-language skills to understand the training and complete the assessments
- Course duration: One day
- Total Qualification Time: 10 hours
- Guided Learning Hours: Eight hours
Assessment Method
The qualification is assessed through a portfolio of evidence and practical demonstrations:
- Knowledge assessment: Open-response questions covering the required knowledge.
- Practical lifting assessment: Demonstration of safe lifting techniques, including a three-person lift.
- Scenario assessment: Observation of the learner’s response to simulated audience and performer situations.
Assessment requirements: Assessments are internally set and marked. Learners must demonstrate practical lifting techniques safely under supervision.
